Sam has two brothers who also play cricket professionally; Tom Curran, who represents Surrey and England, and Ben Curran, who plays for Northamptonshire.

Sam's childhood was spent in Zimbabwe, where he was educated at Springvale House in Marondera and later at St. George's College in Harare. During this time, he developed a love for the game of cricket, which was further nurtured by his family's involvement in the sport.

However, the family was forced to leave their farm in Rusape due to a period of land reform in Zimbabwe, and in 2012, Sam moved to England to pursue his cricketing career. He was enrolled at Wellington College in Berkshire, where he continued to hone his skills and eventually made his mark in the world of cricket. Today, Sam is a respected figure in the sport and has established himself as one of the most promising cricketers of his generation.
