IPL 2023, following Jasprit Bumrah's withdrawal from the tournament

Ahead of IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians are facing a series of setbacks as yet another pacer has been ruled out of the tournament. While Jofra Archer is set to return from injury, the loss of two experienced pacers will be a significant setback for the five-time champions.

Another Mumbai Indians Pacer Ruled Out of IPL 2023 Due to Injury: Jhye Richardson Unlikely to Participate

Mumbai Indians are facing significant challenges even before the start of the 2023 IPL season, as yet another key pacer is likely to miss the tournament following Jasprit Bumrah's withdrawal. Jhye Richardson, the Australian speedster, suffered a hamstring injury during his comeback match after a few months, where he only managed to bowl four overs in the 50-over fixture. The injury has not only ruled him out of the upcoming ODI series against India but has also cast doubts on his fitness for IPL 2023, according to reports.

According to a report from ESPNCricinfo, Jhye Richardson had not played a single game since straining his hamstring on January 4 during the Big Bash League (BBL). While he was sidelined for a few games due to a minor injury, he did not return for the Perth Scorchers in the knockouts. Despite not playing a single game in the Marsh Cup or Sheffield Shield, he returned to competitive cricket by playing a 50-over game for his club Fremantle. He managed to take 3/5, but subsequently went for scans due to concerns about his injury.

Richardson's Injury Could Rule Him Out of IPL 2023 for Mumbai Indians

According to the report, the extent of the injury and the duration of the recovery process indicate that the player is unlikely to be ready in time to play for the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming IPL 2023 season. Richardson was acquired by the five-time champions for his base price of INR 1.5 crore, but his injury may prevent him from contributing to the team for a significant period of time.

The news of Richardson's injury will be a major setback for Mumbai Indians, who are currently facing difficulties in their pace-bowling department, with Bumrah already sidelined due to back surgery. Additionally, Jofra Archer will also be returning to the field after a long injury layoff, which may require the franchise to be cautious with his workload and not play him in all 14 league games.

With Bumrah and Richardson out of action, the responsibility of leading the pace attack will fall on Archer, Cameron Green, and Jason Behrendorff for Mumbai Indians. The team management will be looking to add a couple of replacements to their squad in anticipation of the 16th edition of the league. The absence of key players will undoubtedly pose a challenge for the team, and the management will need to make strategic decisions to ensure they remain competitive throughout the season.
